GYMNASTIC APPARATUS

MENS Artistic Gymnastic Apparatus
FLOOR & RINGS

Floor(MAG)

Evolved from tumbling. It is performed on a 12 meters square soft pad or spring based floor, with a 2.5cm line either of paint or tape bordering the perimeter.

Gymnast's are penalized for leaving the floor area during a competition.

Men's floor exercise usually involves gymnastic manoevers emphasizing strength, flexibility, agility, balancing, and rhythm. Floor exercise develops timing, agility, the musculature of the whole body, and a strong sense of balance and coordination. It also develops creativity and self-expression.

Rings

Height:
280cm+or-1cm From bottom inside of ring to floor

Width: 50cm

Two rings suspended above the ground, they are perhaps the most spectacular men's exercise. Ring routines are particular demanding on the upper body musculature.

One famous example is the 'iron cross', in which the arms are straight-arm extended laterally (horizontal to the floor) from the body such that the gymnast's body forms the shape of a cross (the nickname came because to perform this stunt, a gymnast must have muscles of iron.)

Ring work develops tremendous strength in the muscles of the arms, chest, shoulders, hands and fingers. It also instils a good sense of timing and rhythm along with suppleness of shoulder joints. Like the pommel horse, the rings can be done by men or boys who are disabled in the lower body since the legs are only swung to give momentum.
