GYMNASTIC APPARATUS

MENS Artistic Gymnastic Apparatus
HORIZONTAL BAR & PARALLEL BARS

Horizontal Bar

Height:
280cm+or-1cm (From top of bar to floor)

Also called the 'high bar.' The bar is suspended parallel to the floor by two supports that are 244cm apart. Routines consist of swinging and vaulting movement, especially giant swings and grip changes. The horizontal bar exercise develops strength in the upper body, especially in the arms, shoulders, chest, and back. It also strengthens the grip and builds courage and confidence, along with rhythm and coordination.

Parallel Bars

Height:
200cm+or-1cm (From top of rail to floor)

Spread: 48cm to 50cm

Length: 350cm

This apparatus consists of two parallel handrails, 350cm long. The height and distance apart varies with the level of competition. Gymnasts swing, fly around, and hold onto the bars, with emphasis on swinging and flight. The parallel bars develop strength and power in the arms, chest and back as well as balance, great coordination and timing.

They also instil confidence and can help overcome fear of falling.
